Elucidating the Pathophysiology of Parkinson's Disease

The below research aims to use a multi modal approach to elucidate the pathophysiology of Parkinson's Disease (PD). 


Investigating Freezing of GAit in Parkinson's Disease


Freezing of gait (FOG) is a symptom found in Parkinson's Disease it can be a very disabling symptom for patients and there is a great need to understand the mechanism of this symptom. With a greater body of knowledge we hope to be able to develop tools to help patients with this condition. The information collected from this study will be used to develop a training tool for use in the home designed to reduce the frequency and severity of freezing episodes and improve overall gait in those patients affected by this problem.


Quantification of centre of pressure (COP) of idiopathic PD patients while stepping in place on a force plate performing a simultaneous cognitive task and automatically detect freezing episodes. 


the Effect of transcranial Alternative current Stimulation on tremor frequency in Patients with Essential tremor and Parkinson's Disease


Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique which has been demonstrated to entrain physiological tremor in healthy volunteers.  A 50% tremor amplitude reduction was noted in tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease (ET) [1].   Essential tremor (ET) is a common movement disorder which can be disabling and difficult to treat. Some of the tremor-generating pathophysiological mechanisms are shared between ET and PD.  Therefore, we aimed to explore tACS in managing ET.

Motor skill acquisition Performance in Idiopathic PArkinson's Disease and PARK-2 Parkinson's Disease. 




To Identify differences in goal-directed movement performance between idiopathic PD and PARK-2 PD.
